The Map’s Edge Director and Guide
While his moniker may take a little bit of getting used to, you will very quickly appreciate why Squack is considered one of the top guides on the African continent. His self-deprecating manner belies his professionalism and immense knowledge, and his enthusiasm for wildlife is inexhaustible.
Born and raised on a Zimbabwean cattle ranch in the middle of nowhere, Squack cut his teeth guiding camel-assisted walking safaris in northern Kenya in 1996. Trained in Zimbabwe, Squack went on to gain extensive experience in all aspects of the trade, living and working in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania.
Squack is now a well-respected pan-African safari guide, having led trips in over a dozen African countries and travelled in many more. From Cape Agulhas to Atbara, there are not many blank spots left on the map of Squack’s travel experience. Rather than settling for well-trodden paths, Squack is always keen to see more, learn more and expand his repertoire.
Over the years, Squack has developed a passion for photography and understands what it takes to get that special shot, whether you are a novice or professional photographer. Other than wildlife and photography, Squack also has an avid interest in conservation, trekking, current affairs and history. Squack lives in Nanyuki, at the foot of Mount Kenya, with his wife and two children As with Richard, he is a fully qualified NOLS/Aerie Wilderness First (Aid) Responder. He is also a KPSGA Silver-rated guide.
Squack is a Director of The Map’s Edge and guides safaris all over Africa.
